NEW YORK, March 24 (Reuters) - The euro climbed to asession high against the Swiss franc on Wednesday after SwissNational Bank vice-chairman Thomas Jordan said the central bankwould counter any excessive franc rise decisively and they havethe means to do this. [ID:nWEB7171]
Jordan added the bank would not allow an excessive francrise that could lead to deflation.
The euro was last up 0.2 percent against the Swiss franc at1.4301 francs eurchf= after going as high as 1.4308 francs.It was trading around 1.4289 francs when Jordan"s commentsreached investors.
Earlier in the day, the euro fell to a record low againstthe Swiss franc of 1.4233 francs, according to Reuters data.
The dollar was last up 1.4 percent at 1.0718 francs CHF=,up from the 1.0707 franc level it traded at before Jordan"scomments. The dollar also climbed to a session peak of 1.0723francs on Jordan"s comments. (Reporting by Nick Olivari)
